R.A.R.O
The art residency R.A.R.O was created in 2014 by Lina Ángel, Almudena Blanco and Felipe García Salazar in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This residency program, weirdly organized as the founders like to call it, is an itinerant program articulated so far around twenty art spaces in the Argentinian capital. The artists in residence can circulate through the different workshops and experience numerous techniques first hand from established artists.
« We have all the techniques so that the artist, let’s say, can choose what he wants to do. We have spaces for ceramics, textiles, engraving, photography, painting, performance… We are persuaded that this greatly enriches the production and the work itself » explains Felipe García Salazar, co-founder of the space.
R.A.R.O welcomes national and international artists for a period going from one to three months during which they will be hosted in local artists’ houses. They will also be offered the management of production and communication, and the residency will end up with a public show.
« When the artist arrives, there is a parallel accompaniment that has to do with visits to spaces in the city, to spaces that can be references for the work of this artist, visits to other artists’ workshops, to exhibitions, to other galleries … We try to make a complete presentation of what is the art context in the city » indicates Lina Ángel, co-founder of R.A.R.O.
With more than ten artists in residence each year, R.A.R.O has become a reference in the art scene of Buenos Aires, actively participating in the promotion of art investigation and production.
« It’s obvious that all the experience that is offered to the artist makes the project comes out, comes to light {…} here, you come to an environment where everyone is working with a part of your project. It is something that provides new possibilities and that would not be possible otherwise » confides Valentina Soto, artist in residence at R.A.R.O.
