Cooperativa de Arte
Cooperativa de Arte is a residency production initiative that organizes residency programs all over Latin America since 2010.
Created by the art critic and curator Jorge Sepúlveda, Cooperativa de Arte aims to bring together visual artists, artistic and cultural researchers, historians, and cultural managers in a neutral space specially selected in partnership with local institutions from Latin American’s countries. So far, Cooperativa de Arte organized 44 residencies in the region and invited more than 350 artists and cultural agents from all over the world.
The residencies are divided into three different programs for which an open-call is implemented six months prior to the residency period. Artists can choose between the Contemporary Art and Social Processes program to work closely with communities and local institutions, the Field Investigation program that maps and studies cultural and art initiatives in Latin America, or the Art System Program that focuses on surveys and data studies on the cultural systems.
Artists are not requested for any documents to apply but will be selected from the pertinence of the answers gave to the jury during an online meeting. There are no gender, ethnicity, social class, or religious restrictions to participate in these programs. The selected artists will participate in daily activities that strengthen the group throughout the residency period, as collaborative workshops, debates, and reflection times. The residency generally lasts for two weeks and artists will be receiving shared rooms and breakfast. At the end of the residency, a public presentation will be made on-site and transmitted online to show results and feedback on their experience, and artists will receive a certificate of participation.
