Casa Snowapple MX

Casa Snowapple MX opened its doors in 2021 to offer national and international artists the necessary time and space away from their usual obligations to research, develop, produce and share new creative and cultural work.

Casa Snowapple MX is located at the Historic Center of Coyoacán, one of the most emblematic and Bohemian neighborhoods of Mexico City. It offers a space open to dialogue, where various creative proposals reveal the art and culture of the Netherlands, Mexico and the world.

Can you present your project?
We are an inclusive house where all people are equal and where we offer the opportunity to expand the national and international community of artists, creatives, musicians and the public through intimate gatherings such as concerts, conferences, artistic residencies, well-being activities, music, dance and more.

Can you present the residency program?
All women dedicated to art, academia, activism, cultural and technological development are CALLED to apply for a residency with us. We are keen to receive both emerging and experienced artists, but it is substantial that all applicants show a deep commitment to the artistic work and innovative research topics. Topic: Wilderness Wilderness, and isn’t that a pleonasm? Nature is by nature wild. Dominate it and is it still itself? What is my nature if I’m no longer wild? Wild nature is free, in motion and undomesticated. A still life is an immobile nature, frozen for eternity. Nature, our nature, grows, regrows, buries or submerges itself. Whether plant, animal or human, it is designed to expand, to change, to break the norms and limits of the possible.

What kind of artists can apply to your program?
? Artists of any discipline. ? Individuals or collectives (maximum 8 people). ? In case of applying as a collective, men can participate, but we request that the collective is led by women. ? Your project is related to the theme: Wilderness.

What do you offer to the artist in residence?
? Transportation to and from CDMX. ? We offer a 1-month residency where artists can work independently on their project. ? Shared or single accommodation in Casa Snowapple Mx. ? Spaces to retreat, co-work, rehearse, take or give workshops, recording studio, garden and kitchen. ? Logistical and technical support from the Casa Snowapple team in the successful realization of your projects, within our possibilities. ? Free internet. ? One welcome and closing dinner. ? Press and promotion. Broadcasting of your stay in our media. ? Limited budget for materials. ? Fee of $8ooo MXN per person. ? A closing event in which you can present your work. ? Logistics for your closing event. ? Documentation (photographs) of the exhibition/closing event.

What do you ask of the artists during their residency?
? While residing at Casa Snowapple, artists are encouraged to create works that are environmentally conscious, use recycled materials, do not generate excess waste, and find creative solutions to the problem of garbage in order to be kind to the local environment. ? At the end of the residency, you have developed a product that can be presented to our community. ? You can work on a project that you have already started (starting phase projects only) or start with something completely new. ? Participants are free to work alone or collectively. ? We ask to come with an open mind, the willingness to share and to try new things. ? Commitment with the fulfillment of the residency. Bear in mind that this is not a holiday time, but a time and space in which you can develop your work and share.

Do you think art residencies are important? For what reasons?
Yes, absolutely! Artistic residencies are so important because they are a catalytic meeting point where artists converge in a safe space to bring their ideas to life. A space that facilitates the contemporary art scene, connecting local art with global art.
