Proyecto mARTadero
Proyecto mARTadero is a cultural center created in the 2000s in the old slaughterhouse of the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia, focusing on the promotion of social and artistic projects.
The Associative Node for the Development of the Arts (NADA), founder of the project, took over the 3000 squares meters in 2004 and started its social transformation by organizing cultural activities.
« The idea is that NADA unites different associations and foundations that can develop projects so that the space can be maintained and function as such. So far, we have welcomed more than 2000 activities from different areas, we work with young people from the neighborhood, and there are different groups that occupy the spaces: break-dance, theater, dance, music, photography… » indicates Magda Rossi, coordinator of the residency program.
In addition to the numerous activities offered by the cultural center, the residency program PRANA is open to both national and international artists from all disciplines.
« We have the possibility to host about 12 people at a time. We have 2 residences, one is for shorter residences, usually for theater groups, musicians that come for 2 or 3 days, and the other is a mini apartment that is designed to host artists who come for a longer time to develop their work » explains Magda Rossi.
Nowadays, Proyecto mARTadero is one of the most important cultural space of Bolivia, allowing many people to express their creativity, and to get inspired by the Bolivian culture, as well as share their point of view with the inhabitants of the Villa Coronilla district, changing its face while becoming a safe harbor for art and culture.
« It’s a place where a lot of art is generated, and it’s an alternative neighborhood of Cochabamba, that’s why everything that is urban art is mixed here. The space is very interesting and I think any foreigner would like to come to this sector of Cochabamba. We need to open ourselves to people from other countries, to ideas and other works » confides the visual artist Alexandra Dorado.
